Saving it forward
I'll admit it: I'm afraid of retiring. Not because I don't know what I'm going to do with my time, but because I haven't come close to establishing my retirement plan - and I don't foresee doing so for a couple more years, thanks to that bill I mentioned a couple days ago. (I guess this means I am afraid of what I'm going to do with my time, but for all the wrong reasons...) Even further though, the more I read, the worse I feel - especially given how it seems like it's the perfect time to establish your nest egg.
So what's the point? Well, while I sit and worry about my future, you can start planning for yours: CNNMoney has an interesting section devoted to retirement - some of which we'll examine in more detail in future posts. Among other things, there's a bunch of calculators devoted to figuring out everything from what you'll need to retire to whether you can retire early. In addition, they have articles and tools for the increasing number of us who don't bring in a full-time salary, such as part-timers and the self-employed.
More on all this to come - especially the discussion of self-employment, as I think this is an important topic in today's market. In the meanwhile, leave a comment if there's something in particular you'd like us to explore...
